Congratulations to Rebecca Batson for winning First Place in the Fifth Annual Tomato Pie Contest at The Pickwick Pharmacy and Soda Fountain. A unanimous vote by all judges place Mrs. Batson at front and center for best Mater Pie in town. Judges this year were Jamarcus Gaston from WSPA, 2016 First Place Winner Susan Smith, Gaye Sprague from City Council and Food Writer Stephanie Burnette.

This is always a fun event as it gets you in the mood for summer and brings back memories of those Southern Summer Tomato Pies. Oh don't you worry there will be many more tomato pie contests and you can enter in 2018!
It's not Summer on Augusta with out the Annual Shaggin' on Augusta Shag Contest. Four couples and four pro instructor couples spent over six weeks getting ready to show off their dance moves. They learned the Carolina Shag from local pros and competed on Saturday, June 17th for the big prize. The big prize ie. the first place winners received a framed award and bragging rights for a year. The actual Big Prize goes to First Place instructors and a donation is made in their name to Camp Courage, a camp for children for cancer. This is the main charity for the Carolina Shag Club.

Congratulations to First Place Winners Sarah and Brad Lucas and their instructors Phillip and Suzie Robinson-Park. We also want to give a shout out to the other winners of the evening. Tim and Blake Brookshire won Best ShagTechnique with their instructors Rick and Eleanor Swillen. Mell and Evan Proffitt along with their instructors Jeff and Dede Ward won the Fanciest Footwork award. Vicky and Steve McDonald won the Smoothest Moves award with their instructors Steve and Jill Woodard. We want to thank all the contestants and instructors for your commitment and time.
